4 Signs Your Website Needs A Fresh New Look

 In Content Writing

We’re willing to bet that you’ve updated your wardrobe at least once or twice in the last decade. Why? Because styles change, fabrics wear out, and your functionality needs differ year to year. If you got around in an outfit from the 80s today you’d stick out like a sore thumb, so why is it so many people seem content to leave their retro websites untouched?

The look and feel, in other words, the design of your website has a massive impact on your user’s experience and their overall impression of your brand. That means that if you’re updating your wardrobe, it’s probably time to update your website.

At Mahi Web we want to help your website be all it can be so we’ve put together a list of indicators that your site needs a fresh new look:

  • Your wrinkles are showing

In other words, your website needs a serious facelift. We’re firmly against shaming people because of their age but when it comes to websites that’s a whole other story. The fact of the matter is if you can look at a website and guess it’s age, that is not a good thing. The last thing you want people to be thinking about when they browse through your website is how outdated it looks and how ‘clunky’ the experience feels.

  • It no longer reflects your brand

As a business your brand is constantly evolving to keep up with your clients and a changing market, it’s how you stay relevant. 5 years ago your website’s layout, colour scheme, and graphics might have perfectly encapsulated your brand but chances are nowadays they just don’t give clients the full picture. Your website is your primary digital marketing tool, so you need to make sure that it’s sending the right message.

  • It’s not mobile friendly

This is a big one. Approximately half of the world’s web traffic is generated through mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. That means that if your website isn’t mobile-friendly you are instantly alienating half of your possible leads. In a world that’s constantly on the go, users expect to be able to access and fully interact with sites via their phone and tablet. If your website can’t deliver this, then it’s time for an update.

  • There are new functions available to enhance your user experience

Just as your business is evolving, digital technology is evolving, and for those in website design (namely us), it’s very exciting. New functions and capabilities mean that we can deliver your clients a better, more intuitive and seamless experience than ever before. These include things like the ‘sticky bar’.

A ‘sticky bar’ is kind of like a pop-up only it’s generally a whole lot less intrusive and it should serve a pretty good purpose. Think of when a site loads and you instantly get the “I’m here to help” chat box that opens up. You minimize the chat but the chat ‘button’ remains in the corner of your screen even as you scroll through the pages. That’s what makes the bar or button ‘sticky’; it’s not fixed to the page but rather goes where you go.

For example, for our client Barrier Reef Medical Centre we designed a horizontal sticky bar that follows you as you scroll through the pages (click on the website and check it out). This means that no matter where you are on the page, you can always access the website navigation, call now button, book appointments, and social media links, amongst other options.

This is just one of MANY modern website functions that we, unfortunately, don’t have the space to list here but check out our portfolio and you’ll get a pretty good idea of what’s possible.
